Parliamentary Procedure Q&A

Q: What is the procedure for a person to ask a question on something he needs to know at a meeting of a condo association but his question is not on the agenda? Is there generally an open time for this at the end of meetings? - H.S.K., Dec. 22, 1999

A: You may usually ask questions when the floor is unassigned, especially when they are relevant to a report just delivered (such as questions about zoning after a report on building expansion). If there has been no such opportunity during a meeting, questions should be welcome at the end during an optional agenda item called "Good of the Order" or during "Announcements."

Address your questions to the chair. For example: "Madam President, has the chairman of the Grievance Committee had an opportunity to look into the problem of the stray cats?"
