Parliamentary Procedure Q&A
Q:
I want to know if members of the Board of Directors are the same as being officers.
Our union has always limited the officers serving up to two terms of two years each.
Now a member is saying that the members of the Board are also officers and should serve only a total of four years.
Other members are saying that the directors are not considered officers.

A:
RONR p. 472 says that members of the board "... should be classed as officers of the society...."
If your bylaws do not specify the terms of office for directors, you may assume they are the same as the other officers.
Usually, however, an organization's bylaws do specify the terms for directors, so check them out before making the assumption.
