Parliamentary Procedure Q&A
Q:
A member of our organization is to be nominated to run for office (President).
Knowing that this person has no contractual or Federal Labor Law knowledge that is essential for that office, and has shown that he seeks office only to serve himself and totally disrupt the Union, can his nomination be blocked and how so?
- John F. Murphy, Nov. 9, 1999
A:
If a member is eligible to hold office (i.e., he meets all the qualifications specified in your Union's bylaws), his nomination cannot be blocked.
Your best strategy would be an honest campaign promoting an alternative candidate.
