Parliamentary Procedure Q&A

Q: Can nominations be re-opened, after they have been closed at the prior meeting? Someone has been nominated for a position, and has not received any opposition until after the nominating and the meeting had been closed. We want to run someone for the position of vice president, but do not know if it is feasible or not to nominate someone from the floor. We have been told it is possible. - Steve Hoffman, Nov. 5, 1999

A: Yes, nominations can be re-opened by majority vote. "Mr. President, I move that nominations be reopened."

If a majority does not approve reopening nominations, you may still vote for this person as a write-in candidate.

See RONR pp. 282-83.
