What topics can be brought up at special meetings?

Q: Our bylaws state that if procedure is not covered in the bylaws, we must refer to Robert's Rules of Order latest edition for procedure.

A special meeting has been called and all voting members have been notified by postcard. The topic to be discussed has been stated on the notification.

Question 1. Can the President or anyone else bring up another topic for discussion at this meeting?

Question 2. This subject has been voted down at previous membership meetings. Can we legally vote on this topic again? - D.Y., Nov. 18, 1998

A: 1. No other business than that specified in the notice may be conducted. Conceivably, some other topic could be discussed without being moved. (RONR p. 92.)

2. Yes. A defeated motion may be renewed as soon as the next session. (RONR p. 330.)
