A: What we normally think of as committees are actually called ordinary committees. These are:

Standing committees, which have a permanence; and

Special committees (also known as ad hoc committees), which go out of existence when a particular task or event is finished.

In addition, there's a "non-ordinary" committee. Your entire assembly can vote to go into a committee of the whole. If this passes, the group temporarily acts with a freedom similar to that of an ordinary committee. (RONR section 51.)
