Parliamentary Procedure Q&A

Q: How does a nominee withdraw his name from consideration after the nomination meeting has taken place but before the election? - D.S., Nov. 4, 1998

A: A formal letter withdrawing one's name from nomination is not required, but is appreciated. In any case, the nominee should notify the officer who will preside over the election so that his name will not be offered and, if there is enough time, ballots will not contain his name. The presiding officer may wish to simply state that the nominee has withdrawn his name from consideration, so that the members will not wonder whether the nomination was forgotten.
