Parliamentary Procedure Q&A

Q: Does a treasurer's report need to be presented verbally? I attend a meeting for an HS organization and the treasurer's report is always distributed as individual copies to all in attendance. Then, redundantly, the treasurer reads what we have already looked at. Is this necessary to present verbally if presented in print and so noted? - C.W., Nov. 3, 1998

A: I applaud your organization for distributing copies of its financial report to the attendees.

It is not necessary for the Treasurer to read the report if the members have a copy. In fact, except for the annual meeting, the Treasurer's report can simply be a statement of the balance on hand, unless your bylaws require more. It's likely that the report you're reading/hearing at each meeting would be appropriate in detail for the annual meeting. See RONR pp. 467-470.
