Mario Michel was born on January 19, 1960. He attended the St. Aloysius R.C. Boys Infant and Primary Schools, before moving on to St. Mary's College and the St. Lucia A Level College. In 1978, Mario entered the Faculty of Arts and General Studies of the UWI, and a year later, the Faculty of Law. In 1982, he entered the Sir Hugh Wooding Law School.
In 1984, upon graduation from Law School, Mario entered private law practice in St. Lucia, and in October 1993, he established the law firm of Michel & Company.
Mario has a distinguised record of service under his belt. He has served as an executive member of the Guild of Undergraduates of the Cave Hill Campus of the UWI, president of the St. Lucia Students Association at the St. Augustine campus of the UWI, president and founding member of the St. Lucia National Youth Council, a member of the St. Lucia national bridge team for the past 11 years, a prt-time lecturer at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, a member of the Regional Constituent Assembly on Windward Islands Political Union, a member of the St. Lucia Senate, president of the St. Lucia Guild of Graduates, and president of the St. Lucia Bar Association. Mario has been a member of the St. Lucia Labour Partyfor the past twelve years, and in 1996, he was elected First Deputy Leader of the St. Lucia Labour Party.
Mario is married with one daughter and one son.
Hon. Mario Michel is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports.
