The most enduring monuments of Rome are not the ruins of empire that even now lie scattered over much of Europe, Africa, and Asia. The most enduring monuments are those ubiquitous, those overwhelming Roman roads. Those Roman viae, each like a gigantic thread weaving together all of the then-known world, stitching city to city, moved across mountains, over marshes and into the Sahara. Even today "all roads lead to Rome" in a sense. Let's see what we need to know to go to Rome.
