Carmenta
Ancient seeress, I thank you for your gifts
for a fearless past, the sacred myths.
You stood on Rome, predicting the years going by
before that magnificent city's seed began to rise.
Trojan survivor, mother of a hero,
temptress of the Tiber, lover to Nero.
Carmenta in latin means charms and incantations;
I am so armed to seize and seduce the imagination.
You were held in such reverence,
from that I get sweet deliverance.
The gates of the oldest citadel in Rome
carries your name engraved in ancient stone.
Two altars were cast to you, devoted to your cult,
you loved, you saw, you had no fault.
Now you are stronger and finally free
for you've left your name and legacy to me.
