In order to keep download times to a minimum, we have included only three photos. Several friends and relatives documented the ceremony. As we collect the efforts of the various photographers, we may add some photos to this page
AnnieN and SmithyN were married on December 31, 1997, in the Clarion Hotel Ballroom in Charlotte NC. About 30 friends and relatives of the couple were in attendance, including the parents and children of both the bride and groom. The couple processed to "Strathgary" by Simon Wynberg, a spirited and spiritful Celtic piece, at about 10:45 am. The slight delay being caused by one of the "documenters" having purchased the wrong type of video tape. The ceremony, performed by Dr. Reisner of the Charlotte Universalist/Unitarian Church, included the lighting of the marriage candle. At the beginning of the ceremony, the mothers of the bride and groom came forward and lit a candle each, representing the bride and groom. The couple then, with their candles, lit the marriage candle, symbolizing the formation of the Union, without extinguishing the individuals. The couple exchanged rings, made by a friend of SmithyN's, with thistles, the flower of Scotland, in bas-relief, honoring their common Celtic heritage.
The Kiss
This is AnnieN's favorite photo. The groom would be hard pressed to deny that this picture is right up there on his list also :-)))
Sharing
No wedding would be complete without the ritual sharing of the wedding cake. In keeping with the sanctity of the Union, the cake was actually shared, not smeared.
