All of the software I mention on this page is FREE -- unless noted. The screenshots are from my personal computer running GNU/Linux. Most of the software is Open Source and licensed under the General Public license (GPL); meaning that if you are a programmer you can alter the the source code 'till your heart's content.
If there's a star above the screenshot (*) that means it's included in the
Mandrake linux 8.1 distribution.
Most other software can be downloaded from its respective website for
free.

You can buy the entire Mandrake linux 8.1 software distribution --2 CDs-- for
$3.99

Bellow is a sceenshot of my KDE Desktop.
The KDE Desktop environment has everything that MS Windows is famous for having.
The "start menu" system works the same as MS Windows -- only here it's called the "K-menu." KDE's taskbar is highly customizable; you can dock various usefull applets into it -- clocks, dictionaries, volume control....... KDE also allows you to use Virtual Desktops, which makes it easier to run multiple programs at once -- less clutter.
