NEOPHYTE ~ a term used for beginner participants of pagan activities, sometimes incorrectly used in a derogatory manner.

NEW AGE ~ Usually refers to mixing metaphysical practices with a structured religion.

OLD RELIGION ~ Witchcraft and Paganism; so called because they are either by lineage or spiritually, a system of beliefs which existed long before the Judeo-Christian religions

PALLOMANCY ~ divining with a pendulum.

PALMISTRY ~ the "reading" of palm features to explain personalities & divine futures of the person.

PANTHEISTIC ~ the belief of seeing the Divine as everywhere and in everything. Sometimes explained as pantheism is believing that God and Nature are the same thing.

PENDULUM ~ a divinitory tool, consisting of a device hanging from a string. This tool contacts the Psychic Mind.

PENTON ~ pendant or neck-piece worn during ceremony for devotional and/or magickal purposes. Usually it is a variant of the pentacle design.

POLARITY ~ the concept of equal but opposite energies or powers.

POLYTHEISTIC ~ the belief in multiple aspects of the higher power.

PSYCHOKINESIS ~ the act of mind over matter, or mind controlling matter by mind alone.

REGRESSION ~ by hypnosis or other means, to cause the mind to remember or re-experience details of the past, or previous lifetimes.

REINCARNATION ~ the belief that one has lived before in another lifetime.

RISTING ~ the act of drawing a rune shape or letter, in the air.

RITUAL ~ A focused mental or physical ceremony to either honor or thank one's chosen pantheon, or to perform a specific magickal working or act.

RUNES ~ divination tools, remnant of ancient Teutonic alphabets. Used to divine current status of person or question, placed before them. The adept user can do spells and other works with runes.

SAGE ~ a rarely used term for a male Crone.

SCRYING ~ A divination method using specific tools, such as a crystal ball, where the diviner "sees" either normal visual pictures, mental visual pictures, or information.

SEPTAGRAM ~ a seven-pointed star symbol used in ceremonial magick, representing 7 tenets of: Balance, Harmony, Humility, Learning, Reincarnation, Tolerance, Trust.

SHAMAN ~ a practitioner of shamanism. Person who has obtained knowledge of the subtler aspects of the World by periods of alternate states of consciousness. Native Americans are quite adamant that only an 'Indian' can truly practice such with any real knowledge & others are just fakes & game players, who 'practice' at the expense of respect & truth of what Shamanism is really about. A title given to either a male or female initiate of a religious priesthood usually associated with Native American, African, Asian or Australian traditions.

SHAPE-SHIFTING ~ the ability of a person to change into animal form or otherwise altar one's physical features, either physically or as seen by others.

SIMPLE FEAST ~ a ritual meal of sharing with the God and Goddess.

SKY CLAD ~ a term meaning naked, usually referring to state of undress while doing rituals.

SPELL ~ Extended emotional and mental energy towards a specific goal.

SUMMONER ~ in some Traditions, this is a male who is the counter- part of the maiden. He is the assistant High Priest.

TALISMAN ~ An object that has been magickally charged I order to bring something to the bearer.

THEOLOGY ~ the Study of God(s).

THIRD EYE ~ this is the sensitive area about an inch above the eyes on the forehead. It relates to intuitive input to the Conscious Mind & is often called The Mind's Eye.

THREE FOLD LAW ~ belief that we receive in return three times whatever good or evil we do.

THURIBLE ~ an incense burner that hangs from a chain, and swung to spread its smoke. Used during rituals to cleanse the space within the magic Circle.

TRANSVECTION ~ levitation or projection of the astral body.

TRIANGLE ~ In Ceremonial Magick, a three sided figure used to contain a spirit, intelligence, demon, or whatever has been evoked; it is part of the method of protection for the person or persons who have evoked the entity.

VAMPIRISM ~ The act of drawing energy from another person or thing for ritual, magickal, or personal use.

VISUALIZATION ~ the process of forming clear mental images by using the imagination and memory. An important part of magical practices, and is a function of the Conscious Mind.

VOODOO ~ the remains of several African religions brought to the Western world by slaves. Similar to Santeria, Brujeria and Spiritismo. Sympathetic Magick plays an important part in the VooDoo rites.

VORTEX ~ the whirling forces of the cone of power.

WAND ~ magickal tool used to project some form of power. Traditional ceremonial Magick ascribes to it the power of control over the magickal element of fire.

WICCANING ~ the act of parents, promising to rear their child in the Wiccan culture

WIDDERSHINS ~ the counterclockwise movement around a circle

WORT ~ an ancient word meaning herb, as in mugwort.

XYLOMANCY ~ divination by branch or twig formations, as in interpreting their patterns on the ground, on trees against the sky, or in a fire as they burn.

YGGDRASIL ~ Sacred ash tree that binds Earth with 'Heaven" and the "Underworld" in Norse myths.

ZODIAC ~ a Greek name given to the 'belt' of stars through which the planets apparently pass centrally through. The Zodiac then is divided into 12 parts called signs or houses: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.
