The Development of a Potential Tourist Attraction and Heritage Site

Sherbrooke's Winter Street prison is a unique architectural complex for a number or reasons:

- It is the oldest stone structure in Sherbrooke

- It is the City's third oldest public building

-Its stone fence peniteniary wall is unique in Quebec

The jail's backyard

Built in 1865 by Charles Coté, following the plans of architect Frederic Preston Rubidge, the stone building is a Palladian-type structure (an Italian Renaissance Style developped in the 1500s) Features of tgid style include:

- a pedimented portico

-symmetrical design

- a hipped roof
