Today's Glimpse...

February 24, 2001

"To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One.
Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel,
"My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God"?

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:25-31

God's power and strength are what keep the stars hanging in the sky. I've read that so many times that I take it for granted and I cease to be amazed by it and what it communicates about God's character. Isaiah goes on to say essentially... that being the case, why would anyone wonder or doubt what God is doing, wonder whether he is aware of the challenges of our lives (vs 27). Am I significant is often my question for God... the answer one more time, lies in knowing or seeing God. Isaiah responds by asking don't you know who God is? His heart, character and nature. One of my great insecurities when I go through hard times is that people and perhaps God, will get tired of me. They won't want to hear anymore, not that anyone has ever responded like that - it's my insecurity. Even that is addressed.. he will not grow tired and weary (vs 28), God will never get tired of me, no matter how many times I have to bring the same things to him, he will not grow tired. Why? I have no idea.. the scripture simply says we can't even begin to fathom his understanding. Beyond all that he strengthens us... physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. He does this when we choose to fight through the feelings and live determined to believe in him, the choice to never quit, to trust in his character, his nature, his promises and ultimately his goodness... then and only then can we soar -- and soar we will!
