8. Conclusion

The response from security officers and others involved in evaluating the prototypes has been very positive. Such a system could greatly improve efficiency, allowing the security officer to:

The device should be almost transparent in its use, in that it would be worn in a shoulder holster and would require little attention from the user. The device would make recordings automatically. The only requirement would be to press one button in order to obtain information. The device would select the most appropriate detail for the present location.

The software would facilitate the recall of incidents, in part by providing a direct record in the form of pictures and sounds, but mainly through reinstating the context of the incident for the user. This has been shown to greatly increase both the amount and the accuracy of information recalled.

The user and heuristic evaluation of the software showed that the basic principle was appropriate. The one main problem - the size of the timeline - has been addressed in several ways, such as shrinking the gaps between activations and providing a list of activations by location.

The system described here has the real potential to become a serious product. It is hoped that one day it will reach that stage.
