Apple released the iPod the other day. I hate to be a techie geek. But it's very interesting. It's an mp3 player that holds a staggering 5 GB of songs. That's over 1000 songs. Previous highest competitor in the market? The Creative Jukebox, at 1 GB. It also has a incredible transfer rate. It can download the entire contents of a cd in under 10 seconds. It can, in fact fill up your entire 5 GB in less than 10 minutes. We're talking about on the order of 10 megabits per second -- very fast stuff. Another cool thing is that it has 20 minutes of anti-skip. 10 hour battery. AND it's small. The size of a deck of cards. Pretty neat eh? If y'all get one, I'd like to see it. I can't afford them at like $600 Cdn or so...oh, the link, in case you want it, is here.

Hmmm... looked at the site. Looks like the trend nowadays is to have basically portable hard drives with a couple programs on it. Like those cellular phones that play MP3's, palm pilots. As cool as having 5 GB on an MP3 player, You need a mac, so PC users will have to wait until something equivalent comes out for PC's. That sort of limits the consumer base for this product doesn't it?

Allison

Yeah, they call that convergence. Big big trend in technology. Pretty soon your palm will pretty much be able to do anything. =)

I guess that yes, this being a Mac product will limit the consumer base. But I mean, they're the ones who made it. You expect Mac to be coming out with this stuff for Windows? How about Mac OS/10 for Windows XP. Just doesn't really make sense.

Calvin

Well, they have Windows for Macs and UNIX (for Unix theyre more consoles). So why not have MacOS 10 for Windows?

Me

Cuz everybody knows that Windows is far superior to the Mac OS. =)
