Premier Gordon Campbell has a wife. Her name is Nancy. Nancy is a vice-principal at Churchill Secondary School. Last night, her office got firebombed. She says she doesn't know if or why she might have been targeted. In February Gordon Campbell's constituency office got firebombed in a similar fashion.

It is unclear to police, and apparently the Campbells if there is a connection. I guess she didn't want to say anything inflammatory like "these assholes who bombed me and my husband are going down!" But it seems fairly clear to me. Nancy Campbell's office was torched because she is her husband's wife. Nancy's husband hurts people. People want to hurt him back. They think that they can hurt him through his wife. Time honoured tradition. Do what we tell you to, or your wife and kids die. The Mafia, in particularly, is famous for it.

Unfortunately, this is another case of a valid beef, but ridiculous steps taken to correct the problem. Nobody wants to see Nancy's office firebombed, including me, who hates Gordon Campbell. Sure, they did it at 1:00 a.m., but still, innocent people could have gotten hurt. An innocent woman's (assuming that Nancy isn't the power behind the throne) office got burned up. This is going to create nothing but sympathy for the jackass (in this case I'm talking about Gordon). And it's going to hurt the cause of the other jackass (the bomber). I don't know why people do this. It accomplishes nothing. In fact, it accomplishes the opposite of the intended effect. Campbell isn't going to be cowed, he's going to be mad. He's not going to back down, he's going to be even more determined to shut his ears and eyes to the people he's hurting. Just plain stupid, is what it is. Damn.
