Well, what are the sources of income? Government funding, student costs (ie. tuition). What else is there? A bit of commercial research no doubt. But that's pretty much it isn't it? I don't really know. So....expenditures. Well, there's research, and teaching. That's pretty much it isn't it? As far as I can tell. Some other things, like facilities and stuff, that are non-related to academics. But related to the lives of academics. So....this extra money, where does that go? Well, back up for a second. Who owns the university? I have to confess, I don't know the answer to that question. So I don't get it, the profits of a business generally go to the business' owner, does it not? So.....where does the university money go to? I'm a little puzzled about this point.
To me, it doesn't appear as though the university is really out to make money. They charge money to pay for the services they provide. I don't know. The owners could be raking in half of the money that goes to them, for their own pocket. But then who the hell are these mysterious owners? Hmm. I don't want to sound too stupid, so I'm going to leave it at that.
