It was quite funny, we were talking about cheat codes, he named one, and I named another. We're like, wow, they're so similar eh? And it's like, well hey, there's a grand total of two buttons on the whole damn thing, that pretty much limits the possible number of combinations, don't it?
The Mario Brothers are obvious candidates for classics. Did you ever see the television show? The redeeming feature of that horrible show was that every Friday they played Zelda cartoons. And those were just awesome, no two ways about it. "Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me princess!" Yep. Complete with sound effects straight from the game, that cartoon was one of the best. I used to watch MegaMan cartoons too, which were not bad.
Did you ever play Ninja Turtles? Awesome game. Contra 1 and 2? Classic shoot-em-ups. Double Dragon? That one's a hall of famer for sure! I remember that they even made a movie out of that song! Some kind of Fred Savage, video game competition thing or something. Oh, what about Gauntlet? I guess the definitive version of that was in the arcades, but the Nintendo version was still good.
Then there are the fun games. Paperboy was one of my first games, and always a favourite for me. Another fun one was Ducktales! Who didn't like that game?? Bugs Bunny was maybe one of the most stupidly repetitive games ever. Or that prize may go to Rampage. I played for four hours once, and still never finished it. Does that game even have an end?
Then there are the gamut of sports games. My favourite was Bases Loaded II. But hey, what about Blades of Steel? Or, there was this really awful hockey game called Gretzky's Hockey or something like that. Tecmo Bowl? Oh, there were about a zillion car racing ones. Pro-Am Racing was maybe my favourite. But it's hard to compete with Rad Racer.
Then there were the games that were pure cheese. There was a game called Elevator Action, where you're this spy who rides up and down elevators all days. Awesome game. But so cheesy. So cheesy.
We can't forget the ever-popular Tetris. Whoever invented that game was a genius. And Tetris spawned a whole host of variations. My favourite is Dr. Mario. Love that game, I still play it quite regularly. Bust-a-move is good also, although I don't know if they have it for Nintendo.
Ah, the memories....
