Oh well. What I was intending to say involved photography. Over the past few years, I've been noticing that people who are techincal people, in particular those who are in engineering or computers, tend to be more interested than the nomal person in photography as a hobby. Why?
Well, these 'geeks', as I shall refer to them for convenience purposes, are technical people, like I said. There's a lot in photography that's technical, applied math and logic and stuff. Besides the camera itself -- you must deal with things like shutter speed, flash, lighting, there's the picture. Angles are crucial in photography. At least I suppose so, I'm not much of a photographer myself. All this stuff I'm saying....straight out of my ass. Anyways, angles. How will things look from certain angles is important. How light will bounce off certain things is also important. Perspective, I guess, would also be important. All that is very mathematical. Ah....well, not necessarily I guess. All that CAN BE very mathematical. In an applied way. Every shot is kind of like a puzzle. You have to have the right elements and arrange them in the right way. And when you solve the puzzle, you have a good picture. And we all know that geeks love puzzles.
Another aspect inherent in photography is what? Art and creativity. Do the geeks find this stimulating as well? There is a certain element of creativity involved in geek jobs, to be sure. But in this sense......I don't know. Not many geeks sign up for oil painting as a hobby. You know?
One more aspect is......oh yeah. The meaning of the picture. The construction of it. The symbolism, metaphor, human expression, and stuff. Why was this picture taken at sunset? Why is there dog excrement in the top right hand corner. That sort of thing. And really.....I have nothing to say about that. So I'll leave it there. My out of the ass speculation on why geeks tend to like photography as a hobby.
