Anybody out there tennis fans? The Australian Open started earlier this week. Do you know what the biggest story of the tournament has been? Venus Willams' outfit. You can see it here.

I think that this is a little bit ridiculous. There are so many other stories here. Why focus on that? First maybe a little bit of tennis history. Traditionally, the clothing that tennis players have worn is all white. White shirt and shorts for men, and white shirts and skirts for women. Then people, women especially, started to wear more colourful things, and less conservative. And now Venus, I guess has become even less conservative.

Quite frankly, I don't see why this is a problem. I know of no other sport that makes as big a deal out of clothes as does tennis. I mean, so what? So they ain't wearing white. Guess what, they wear bathing suits in swimming competitions. They wear bikinis for beach volleyball. Who cares what they wear? As long as it's legal, then what does it matter? In fact, for all I care, they could play tennis wearing less clothing than is legal, they could play in the nude for all I care. Why are people making such a big deal about it? Her clothes weren't even all that bad. I mean, I guess it was a little low. But I wouldn't get all worked up about it.

Venus Williams is one of the top female tennis players in the world today. Has everybody lost sight of that? No matter how much of a bitch she is, no matter what she wears, she is still one of the top females in the game. Shouldn't that be a little more important than the number of millimetres her bra clears her nipples by? If she decides to dress like a slut, then that's her business. If one of her breasts decides that it's going to pop out of her shirt, then that's her problem. I'm interested in tennis, not a fashion commentary. I personally find it kind of demeaning to the player that the media should care more about her dress than her tennis game. Isn't that just objectification of women in the media? Why is Anna Kournikova probably the most famous female tennis player in the world? Her tennis skills are good, but far from being the best in the world. No, it's the way she dresses and the way she acts. This isn't even about tennis. And I think that's a real shame. Tennis is almost an afterthought, behind the clothing, or lack thereof.
