I know pretty much nothing about pairs figure skating. But even I can tell you that Canada got jacked at the Olympics tonight. Our guys, Sale and Pelletier skated a flawless program. The Russians, Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze, made mistakes, in fact, stumbling during a jump...but in the end, the mistake-laden performance won the gold medal, and the flawless one the silver...Canadians and figure skating watchers around the world are incensed. I wonder if I would have the same detached point of view if I were Russian...

What I wanted to actually talk about was another Olympic thing. The hockey. The NHL is releasing players to play in the Olympics....but only the medal round? Is that right? In any case, the point is that they are not letting players play in the preliminary qualifying rounds. That's stupid! "okay, you can go...but only for part of it". I mean....it just doesn't make any sense. Well, actually, I guess it sort of does. If Canada had to play the preliminary qualifying rounds, do you think the NHL would have allowed it? I'm not too sure about this....but I'm thinking yes. What kind of a double standard is this? If I'm a Latvian, or a Slovak, or whatever, I'm pissed. It just doesn't make sense to me that you wouldn't let them play...I guess that's all I have to say on the matter....
