Guess what starts today? The big shindig in Quebec City!! It should come as little surprise to those who know me, that I am quite opposed to it, and am sympathetic to the protesters. Ever since they built that big fifteen foot wall though, I'm even more opposed. And you know what the most ridiculous part of the whole damn thing is? Mr. Chretien and his cronies are hailing it as the triumph of democracy, or some such nonsense.

I'm scratching my head in amazement. How can the abolishment of peaceful protest by citizens of a democratic country be construed as the triumph of democracy? Maybe I'm dumb or something, but I don't see it....and where will this wall stop? Every time they have a meeting, they're gonna have a wall? Walls spring up in cities around the globe. Hearken back to the good old days, when all cities were walled as standard practice. Why were they walled? To keep out invaders of course! So....what, Canadians are invaders in their own country?

I didn't think about it before, but this is related to the last article I wrote, on David Schreck. This is a violation of our basic rights as Canadian citizens. I recognize that we can't have people causing physical violence, I don't dispute that. Violence is a bad thing. But you know what? A wall isn't going to do anything. What a wall is going to do is build resentment. And the violent people, I'm sure they won't have a lot of trouble getting through the wall if they really want to. So.......this won't really do anything except make the situation worse, right? I mean, I don't really see the point. You're making people more unhappy......and you think they're going to go back on the plane and fly home? Doesn't follow. They're just going to find another way to make their message heard. Perhaps a more drastic method.

The proper thing to do, of course is lift the veil of secrecy hanging over the talks. Let the protesters in to have their say. The secrecy is a pretty big part of everybody's concern anyways isn't it? Nobody knows what's happening....they assume the worst. At least I do. If it isn't the worst that's happening.....why not tell us?? The whole thing is just ridiculous. Canadians are voting on their feet. Their government is refusing to let them vote. What a joke of a democracy.
