Notes from
classmates ...
Billy
Ruth: I was
surprised to count 31 students. And teachers today think they
have it bad. There was a girl in our class with red hair named
Christina or Christine and she died after hitting her head on the
pavement playing Red Rover, does anyone remember anything about
that? I don't remember what class but I remember going to the
funeral. Anyway, here it is and I will now send the 1st grade photo.
Linda Drake
Kenny: Mrs. Matthews taught the third third grade class at
Payne.
Sharon and Jerry Lusk:
Mrs.
Matthews taught the third
class - I was in that one. I don't know if I have a picture
anywhere or not. For sure don't know where it is if I do.
Maybe someone better organized than me will have it. (Mrs.
Matthews was Margaret Bunnell's aunt - think I'm right about that.)
Wayne
Collins: I may
have been mistaken. I may have been in Mrs. Mathews class with
Susan Bright, and Mrs Hicks may have been the 4th. Gosh I don’t
remember that was over 50 years ago.
Harriett
Hawkins: Row 1
- Dickie Arnold; Row 2 - #2 -Donna Moore?, #7 - Bill Marlin, #11
Wayne Collins. Hope this helps. These pictures are great.
Linda Drake
Kenny: The girl on the second row, second spot from the
left
might be Donna Moore. She moved to Mooresville and her family ran
a restaurant in Franklin called Moore's on Jefferson Street, right
where the bank is today, across from Henderson's....where Wheeler's
Jewelry was. She moved in 4th grade. Yes, Christina Gill
died when we were in fourth grade. And Mrs. Matthews was Ann
Dunn's aunt, I believe, not Margaret Bunnell's. Am I right about
that?
Yes,
Linda - all that you mention bring back memories! I also
remember
that Bill Marlin and I both had a crush on Donna. Bill and I
lived right down the alley from each other and were best of friends -
but that Donna strained us a bit! Puppy love, aint it
great!? I had forgotten what she looked like, but that's her
alright! throb throb throb
Mike Whitaker: 3rd. Grade
Pictures, Mrs. Hicks room. 2nd. from the left on the top row is Jimmy
Pruitt. If I figure any others out, I will forward Same.
