I wrote this back in 1999 following some PAD (Personal Analysis Diary) Work that yielded up its fruits at a rather unexpected time.

Antinomianism: A technique in which conscious dissent is practiced against objective doctrines, cultural norms and religious concepts of “good” and “evil” for the sake of personal liberation.
I discovered something rather disturbing today: that antinomianism has just as much a trap within it as total conformity to a system of “Dos” and “Don’ts” does. While meandering about my normal routine, it came to mind that I was in a serious state of depression, and looking back at the time that I had first starting practicing Rune Galdor, I realized that at the time, I was not consciously practicing antinomianism at the level that I have done in the past two years or so…mind you, in this day and age, in a society predominated by Judeo-Christian Monotheism, it is a rebellion in and of itself to re-embrace the ways of one’s Ancestors and seek the Runes, but after becoming familiar with some written works on Antinomianism in regard to the Left Hand Path, I decided to more consciously focus myself with working with this technique of liberation. The interesting point that I gleaned for myself lately has been the fact that while antinomianism can be an extremely effective tool in freeing one’s Self from the conceptual/indeological fetters imprinted by the world at large, it can also act as a great vacuum of energy if taken beyond its goal of release from external influences; you could liken it to struggling to break free of chains upon your body, and still struggling for the sake of struggling once the bonds have been broken and stripped away.
From another angle, I’ve encountered a few individuals out there that simply use antinomianism as a convenient excuse for any petty deeds or words, and negating any personal responsibility or discipline by rationalizing their actions as an act of “going against the grain” for the sake of their development…interestingly enough, these same individuals also have criminal records, and no real friends to speak of (I personally don’t consider these rewards to be among my goals as an Odian.)
When we look at antinomianism a bit closer, we as Odians should bear in mind that it is in fact a polar opposite to the concept of conformity, and a conscious expression of temporary “Chaos” against an external “Order” for the sake of taking control of our own existences and Ordering them in accordance with our Inner Rede (this is expressed in the Myths as Óðinn slaying Ymir); taking antinomianism beyond its practical end can result in needless alienation & suffering…this is also expressed in the Myths, with Loki being bound and tortured for some of his less savory behavior. There’s a razor’s edge to be found when working with antinomianism…we as Odians should learn the balance of this edge whle faring upon it, lest we be wounded deeply by it through our own deeds and words.
