Our closest genetic relatives, apes and monkeys, devote time
on a regular basis to grooming each other. Why ?
Sometimes to remove ticks, bugs, dirt, leaves or thorns
and sometimes to show care and give and receive a sence of belonging,
cooperation, and community.
In the human species, pride, guilt, fear and shame are the most
prevalent barriers preventing touch between one and others.
Some are too proud to admit they hurt or need anything from an other,
or that anyone else could provide what they need.
Some chose to suffer pain out of guilt, whether real or imagined.
While there are different types of touch, and while a variety of meanings
and understandings can be conveyed by touch, true therapeutic touch
can transcend self-imposed boundries and limitations.
True Touch is care in the quick, compassion incarnate and the shared desire
for relief. True Touch is felt by both the giver and the receiver
and satisfies a primal need in both, as well.
True Touch is communicable and if the intention is pure
and compassionate, the results can be miraculous.
We ALL have the need as well as the ability, for True Touch. We ALL have
the capacity to accept, and provide True Touch.
A single step starts the journey, a simple touch can smooth the path.
