So, uh, if you got a kiddie out there, go look for him. Okay ... I got a friend of mine, young Durango, as you remember him, walking out through the crowd, he's was taking down notes. So if you had anything to go up here with for the notes he'll be going through there, and you know Durango, you all met him up here, Brother Bartholomew's instructor."

So there is going to be, according to his report, as they get it going, a fire truck will move slowly along there and spray out from its nozzle."
Audience: [Cheers.]
Announcer 2: "So hang in and we're gonna move with the truck, just so you know what your getting hit with, so nobody thinks it's something *weird* coming down on 'em. It's just water, from the creek."
Ken Babbs: "Now you, now you dig, the water coming by is not drinking water. So save the drinking water and get, use this for the, uh, rubbery water, the, uh, body-soothing water. So you save a little, conserve ... oh this, is, see, the report from the action central is: conserve your water."

Ken Babbs: "We've got a call for a Pam Donahue to come over here to this corner over here to meet his friends. And Dominick of Rainbow Farm wants to meet brothers and sisters at entrance of back of band. Any brothers, sisters, or owners of land, brother-freaks, come to back of band. Ohm-shanti, spare love always for a hippie."

Keeping the flow in the go. ... Oh, right, right the kids tent, for you guys that don't know about it, it's, uh, located down there at that end--"

Set 3
Ken Babbs: "I got one story to tell you before we go any further, 'The Mystery of the, uh, Vanishing Truck,' or 'What Happened to the Guy that was Going to Spray the Crowd.' Well it turned out the truck they were using was the truck that drains the sh!tters, and we weren't gonna have it be said that you got sh!t sprayed on you at the concert. Oh, is that how it went? Well, anyway, this is Durango, here, and he's gonna circulate amongst you, to pick up your messages and bring them back here, that's the way we're gonna do it. ... As far as the fresh water, the fresh water truck has gone to get another load of fresh water to bring-- to-- to-- bring-- bring-- bring back."

Now the Rainbow Farm boys, they poor folks, and they need money. So, if any of you would like to contribute for his 27-dollar bail, come to the side of the stage where the Rainbow Farmers are. They'll accept it. ... We haven't had a report on the water truck for a long time. ... Yeah. ... Yeah. ... Say it again. ... Tom and Jill Lowry to the wah-tol-wah. Oh, to the sound tower with Tom and Jill Lowry. Dan Hill to the tower. If anybody finds keys on a leather string, please bring them up front, they're for Kay. Where is the white Volkswagen van on the? Okay, it's over here on the north side of the field--"
Bobby: "--Hey, if you all would refrain from trying to hop this fence you wouldn't f*ck yourselves up."
20. Casey Jones . . . | 05:54
|
Missing "One More Saturday Night" after "Casey Jones."
Incredible performances of "Playin' in the Band," "Bird Song," and "Greatest Story Ever Told." Blair Jackson, in his book Going Down the Road, p. 144: "One of my favorite moments in the entire body of the Grateful Dead's music comes during the August 27, 1972 (Veneta, Oregon) version of 'Bird Song.' After the vocal part of the tune, the band embarks on a twisted, obviously acid-drenched jam that spirals up and up until it resolves at the main riff. There's a moment of pure silence, which almost feels like it might be the end of the song, but then Bill Kreutzmann unleashes this amazing rolling drum figure that instantly propels the jam in a completely new direction."
