Around the middle of the second century BCE, descendants of the high priest Zadoc from the tribe of Aaron, formed their own sect. It was the result of a grievance, regarding the appointment of a high priest from outside of the priestly tribes. Called Essenes, their leader was referred to as the Teacher of Righteousness. By the time of Jesus's birth, they were in existence for about 150 years. The Essenes established themselves at Qumran by the Red Sea. Their Teacher of Righteousness wore white robe, sandals and in many respects resembled Jesus very closely or perhaps Jesus resembled him. He was also crucified.
