Romanian History Introduction
Why am I interested in Romanian history?
Well, my wife was born and raised in Romania and talking to her got
me interested. So I started reading everything I could find about the
country and its history. The more I read, the more I enjoyed it.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot of information about Romania and her
history available in English. I guess it's not high on the list of
interesting reading for Americans. Even if no one else finds this
subject interesting, I decided to gather whatever information I had
found, along with some of my own thoughts, into these web pages.
There are a lot of roadblocks that crop up when writing about
Romania's history, as we'll find out in reading through the history
sections within this Romania Burrow. In addition to all the other
difficulties of writing her history, one particular problem stands
out.
Romania's "official" borders, as well as those of nearly every other
East European country, were only recently established in their current
locations during the first half of the 20th century. The Romanian people
always lived there, but this fact was seldom acknowledged. This means
that the Romanians, as well as the citizens of other East European
countries, did not always live within the boundaries of their current
countries.
I hope you find Romania's history as interesting as I do. It's not
something I learned in my American schools.
