Negligence

        NEGLIGENCE

We turn,
oblivious
as mother earth
shamefully ravished;
impregnated with scars,
weeps.
We claw
leaving festering wounds.
Caught up in our masquerade
blocking out screams for help
not wanting to soil our hands.
Yet like a battered wife
she continues to give her all.
We take, we pillage.
She is pliant to our demands.
We leave no dignity.
Who will reap from our apathy?
