Reduced Training Time Federal Express spent over $40 million on interactive videodisc (IVD) training, installing 1200 IVD systems in 800 of its 1,400 service centers. An IVD system is a combination computer, TV monitor, and videodisc system. As a result of the investment, Federal Express reported an approximately 30% decrease in performance errors in tracking packages while at the same time cutting training time (Fryer 56). Most corporations consider time to be money, so a reduction in time is cost efficient. According to Fryer a multimedia training program implemented by Holiday Inn has reduced training time from an estimated 14 days to 6 days (56). The program was introduced because the rapid turnover requires fast training for Holiday Inn's new employees. The program they are using is a multimedia property management training. Using the program, Holiday Inn has been so successful in reducing training time and costs that management plans to use it to provide training at 1600 sites. |
