     I look at time and wonder
     What has happened here? 
     What has made us blunder
     What happened to the cheer?

     In Colorado, shootings
     So much violence and despair
     The words repeated many times
     How could they so not care?

     How could they have simply done it
     Why did it happen here
     Why these innocent people
     Why make us shed our tears?

     The children stand, so grieving
     No way to express their fears
     Only locked in a state of shock
     Why make us shed our tears?

     People always asking
     Where is it we can go?
     Where are we safe these days
     I truly do not know

     You look around and wonder
     Is this really what it’ll be?
     Is it really supposed to be this way
     With so much tragedy?

     They keep on asking daily
     What has happened here
     I say, ask a better question
     Why make us shed our tears
