Alfred J. Marachek knew his course well as he rode his newly tooled thirty gear front and rear dual shock Schwin EXL Ridge Racer down the planned route. It had taken a full four months for him and his team to plot his ride down to the minutest detail, select and purchase his equipment, and get him in shape for the upcoming event. Together they had planned, checked, and double-checked just about everything. Now, as he zoomed down Bay Shore Road, thoughts of glory ran through his mind, but were quickly stomped out so he could focus his concentration on the ride as he whizzed by trees and street signs in the early morning hours. Moving at a swift twenty miles per hour, he made a left onto Ocean Drive just as his watch alarm went off reminding him to take his power gel energy supplement. Increasing his speed to twenty-two miles per hour, Alfred rounded a curve and sighted the pier straight ahead. As he moved onto the pier, Alfred began to decrease his speed at a rate of one fifth of a mile per second. As he reached the line before the jump ramp he accelerated as fast as he could and launched off the end of the pier. Following in a brilliant arc, he threw his bike to the left before he hit the shark infested waters below. As the sharks proceeded to tear him limb from limb, there was a look of triumph on Alfred's face, just before the sharks ripped that off too.
