I Could Have

by Grant Aldrich

Of all the time
I've spent on rhyme
To write this silly poem,
I could have met
A million people
And even get to know them.

I could have worked
Upon my car
Or cleaned my dirty room,
I could have done
The schoolwork assigned
Or slept in until noon.

I could have pulled
The ton of weeds
That seem to drown my home,
I could have tried
To straighten my curls
Or even use a comb.

But the fact of the matter
About all these things
Happens to be a bit hazy,
I didn't do any
Of the things I could have
Basically because I'm lazy.
