"there is music in the silence"
by Jamie Ellis-Simpson
there is music in the silence
in focusing on nothing more than
the slight movements of grass
a time when i can simply
close my eyes and fall
no world around to catch me
just drown
no opinions forced
no one’s life to live
silence is the true bliss
sacred self-absorption
once in a rare while
i can see
the wind running through my fingers
the grass dancing at my feet
and the birds soaring above my head
and hear nothing
my heart leaps to awe
the wonder of no traffic
no screaming people
not even the sound of the wind
i can feel
this is when i close my eyes
and fall
it is so easy to drown in bliss
so hard to die in happiness
but i will fall when the light
shimmers
the blue sky drifts
uncertainly
and silence reigns
the candle will wave
goodbye
shifting
desperately trying to
escape the heat of living
it will envy me
i will hear the music of the
abyss when
i fall
