"The Dance"
by Nicki Roberts
The first note sounds
It drifts across the room
And rings through my heart--
The core of my being,
The center.
From there it flows through my veins,
Extending through my arms and toes
Until it envelopes me completely,
Liquefying; penetrating.
And the movements are not just blind reachings,
Not just empty repetitions,
But they form from deeper efforts,
From each strain of my muscles,
My fingertips,
My eyes, expressions,
Every length of my being.
This is the true feeling of dance--
Movement from the heart.
