"First Love"

by Kim Friel

I stand before you now,
Knees shaking heart pounding,
Palms slippery with sweat.

My eyes well with memory stained tears
And they continuously fall…
The puddle they make reflects the times
When you loved me, when you cared.

Now the puddle reflects my loss of innocence
And my new understanding of this world.
Hearts shattered, broken, torn
Bodies sucked into the black hole called love.

Standing here now. I feel trapped.
By your inability to love me, by
My own feelings that became my traitor.
I long for your touch yet feel nothing but nothing itself.

Broken promises, meaningless words
Combine to show the insecurities of life.
Yet today gives security that life will still go on…
