"The Lighthouse"

by Pearl Chang

patches of dark amongst the light
flashing red cuts across the
brilliant expanse.
twilight descends
the streetlamps hover glowing and wise
they are showing someone how to get
home.

biting cold lingers in the air
it misses it's morning rain.
rectangles of light cast upon
faded brick
Faded with time
dulled by the knowledge of the
world.

God looks on us
the little squares of houses
just a small bit of hope.
a lively fire burns in someone's
safe haven
it is my beacon, my
lighthouse.

Because of that light I know I am safe.
