The multi-talented Mr. Crowe not only sings, but he plays a mean guitar, too (and watch out for that hip action [read: have smelling salts handy]).
If you didn't kill yourself frantically trying to mute the sound 'cause you're at work and you're being paid to do something constructive, you're listening to a live version of Oblique is my Love from the 30 Odd Foot of Grunts CD Gaslight ('course, if your computer is as slow as molasses, you don't hear a thing...).
Yes, that rich, deep voice you hear is the Oscar-nominated actor Russell Crowe... Yup, that's the one, he played the intense fat balding guy in The Insider. But he ain't 55 years old, he's an energetic 36-year-old bachelor who has a 'who-wants-to-have-my-baby?' list as long as Australia is wide. I signed up 263 times. I'm just waiting for the audition call.
If you didn't know already, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, affectionately called TOFOG or The Grunts, hail from Australia. Their sound has been described on the Grunts site as "Rock & Roll !!!" with the following aside: "well I could say Australian/lyrical/folk/blues-based rock, but that would just make it sound more interesting!"
Like the sound? Go to the Grunts site and download samples from their 3 albums/CDs (what you've just been listening to can be found at this link as well).
The lyrics, most of which were written by Russell, can be found here. But, hey, don't waste any more time here...check out the site yourself!

On a personal note, my faves are 'Oblique is My love' followed very closely by 'Eternity' and 'Nowhere' (which really shocks me 'cause, folks, I've hated rap with a passion these 20 years with the exception of Will Smith and MC Hammer...yes, I'm that old). Also like 'Circus' (head-bobbing again), 'Castelbuilder' (a sad one that tempts the tears) and, lately, 'Danielle' is growing on me like a bad rash. These lines in particular from 'Danielle' stop me right in the middle of washing the dishes every time:
How long was it last time
We tortured each other
To the point of cryin' when we finally touched
Too late in the day
As we so often do
You know I love you
But do you trust me?
She angles her head
Do you trust me?
I wish I had said
More than I did *
Say, more than you know
If I could only trust myself
Our love could grow
* I think Russell actually says "dare" or "dared," instead of "did," on the CD...which gives the line even more meaning. Ahhhhh, Russell, let your harem hold you and try to sooth that pain away! Oh hell, forget the harem, let ME try it...
Ah well...
And...if you still need yet another reason why we love Russell Crowe...read the
lyrics to 'Wendy'; better yet, check out the
Gaslight CD and listen to it.
