Listing #2:

Celtic Traders has come into possession of a quanity of very old trade beads [museum quality]. They are of various types; some in strands, others in small quanities. These items were produced as; archealogical evidence shows, which is meager at best. They were Estate produced mostly in and around Venice, Italy. We do know that the pre-renaissance Italian Estates were massive and highly competative. Producing some of the most beautiful trade beads in use.

Historical Timeline of tradebeads
1492 The first recorded use of glass trade beads were introduced by Columbus in October 12, 1492 he recorded it in his log. He traded it to the natives of San Salvador Island.

1540 Coronado brought glass trade beads into the Southwest in 1540

1579 Sir Francis Drake landed in Claifornia and traded glass trade beads to the Indians.

1670 The Hudson's Bay Company was formed, and they stocked glass trade beads as part of their stock-n-trade.

1728 The Russian exploration of North American by a Dane, Vitus Bering who sailed for Peter the Great.

The beads commonly called Russian Blue Cobalt were in fact; from Coronado's time until the late 1600's, for the most part, were produced in the glass factories of Murano, Venice.

Lot's numbers: #1, #2, & #3 are three different types of Russian Trade Beads; commonly called "Cobalt [blue] or Russian Cobalt's," they are faceted, round, and flat: lot #4, is a strand of opaque white glass trade beads. Lot #5, is a beaded belt.

This series; date from abt.1200 ad to about 1850 ad, and of the type traded in the North Africa, Canada, and the United States to the Native peoples. The specific strands will be identified by approx. date. These archealogical specimens are refered to in the Bead edition of Arizona Highways, that was published in July 1971.

Listing #2, Lot #1: A 12" strand of 14 pairs of faceted Russian Blue Cobalt trade beads, spaced with old style brass trade beads. This the oldest of the lots; [abt. 700 years old-the facets are still visable on some of the beads]. It is strung on deerskin.

Listing #2, Lot #2: A 23" strand of 45 round Russian Blue Cobalt trade beads, spaced with 18 opaque white glass trade beads. This lot is about 400 years old [abt. 1500's].

A 15" strand of 8mm flat Russian Blue Cobalt trade beads, spaced with 8 pieces of hammered silver wire. Strung on deerskin.This lot is about 300 years old [abt. 1600's].

Listing #2, Lot #4:

A 26" strand of 48, aprox. 8mm very, old opaque white to yellow verigated colored trade beads, spaced with 6 - 1 1/2" white bone hairpipe trade beads, and one 1 1/8" abalone disc pendant. Age unk. [abt. 100 to 200 years old].

Listing #2, Lot #5:

A 37" + 2 1/2" beaded belt. Bead work mounted on soft golden colored elkhide. Beadwork pattern is Eastern Cherokee [white background, bordered in cobalt blue with oragne and yellow diamonds, depicting the eastern diamond back rattlesnake] and the artist is Little Turtle of the Eastern Cherokee band. The piece has won a blue ribbon for excellence among many entrys in the Beadwork compitetion at the annual Butterfly Festival in Mariposa, California.
