Circle Casting of the Winds

This is one of many ways to cast the circle. It lends itself especially well to solitary work, as it doesn't require much, if any quarter "calling". It also has the benefit of being completely silent if you so desire, which makes it especially valuable for those occasions when you need a circle, but can't be too open about it (i.e. college students in dorms).

The technique is very simple. Stand at the north (or east if you are so inclined) and call the winds of the north. Envision the winds coming towards you, bringing stability and prosperity. In your mind, visualize the north wind circling clockwise around you. Turn it into a leafy hedge that pulsates with energy around you. Now, call the east wind in the same manner. This wind stands for intellect. In your mind, see the east circle around you, then join the north (still circling) making the vision of the leafy hedge stronger. Next call the south wind, with its powers of creativity and passion. As before, vizualize the south wind circling you, then joining the other two winds, making the hedge stronger. Call the west wind, that of love, devotion, and honor. Visualize the west wind circling clockwise around you, then joining the other four winds. Your circle should be very dense by now. Finally, visualize the breath of spirit coming down from above, circling about you, then joining the other winds. This wind carries the energy of the divine. Clap your hands or stamp your feet to seal the circle. Once the circle is cast you can call the quarters if you so desire, however some would say this is a bit redundant.

Do your magical working in the circle, or just sit and enjoy the energies flowing around you. When you are finished, be sure to bid hail and farewell to the winds, one at a time, counterclockwise. Stamp your foot or clap your hands to open the circle.

Angels, archetypes, and ancestral spirits enjoy the energy of the winds. You can also turn this circle casting into a quickie (when you need to conjure up something super fast and don’t have your tools tucked up your nose). All kidding aside, try your hand at this unique and ancient circle casting. I think you’ll love it.
