FOR TWO SPECIAL FRIENDS

    FOR MAD DOG AND TOPPER

    My Feelings about Invictus:
I am the Master of my fate. I am the Captain of my Soul.
Without God as my Navigator, I am nothing,
I am as a ship at sea, on a dark night,
adrift, without stars or the Heavens to guide me.
I pray whatever God or higher power my friends, any of them,
believe in, that when dawn comes, that God and the heavens
has found them a "safe harbor" to shelter their souls in.
Artists both in your own unique method, I hope in this poem
you will find much "meaning", as I did.
From my heart to you both......

    INVICTUS

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole.
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet, the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
    I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
    -- William Ernest Henley

With much fondness and affection to you both
for all your support and many kindnesses -- MT
