Final Thoughts

Senegal took my breath away. It was one thing to read about the place but another to actually spend time there. I was delighted when people uttered, "Welcome, sista" and by the many who wanted to get to know me better. The people were very hospitable, friendly, and respectful.

If you are considering a trip to Senegal and/or The Gambia, I'd recommend Lonely Planet's book which is displayed below. It was well-done and prepared me for everything I encountered. It even mentioned certain "little things" (customs) that made a big difference.
