Reconstruction

In U.S. history the term "Reconstruction" refers to the time period that followed the Civil War (approximately 1865-1877) and to the process by which the states of the Confederacy were readmitted to the Union. this period of time was marked by struggles within the government about how Reconstruction should be handled and about who should be in charge of it.
