Jan Matthijsz, an Anabaptist sheepshearer, had his tongue pierced on the stake in the marketplace. He had spoken ill of the holy sacrament.

Bartholomew Boekbinder, William Kuiper & Peter Houtzager were executed for their role in the demonstration of the "Sword Bearers" in Amsterdam.


1557

26 April 1557
Joriaen Simons, an Anabaptist bookseller, was strangled and burned at the stake in the Grote Markt.


1570

17 June 1570
Anneken Ogiers was sentenced to death for being an Anabaptist, then drowned.


1650

A synod of United Mennonite congregations from many Dutch cities adopted an official confession of faith and prohibited members from listening to any preacher who did not endorse the confession. Galenus Abrahamsz, preacher of "the Lamb" church in Amsterdam, was opposed to this requirement because it placed too much emphasis on doctrinal statements and not enough on the love of God.
