David Joris set up shop as a "young master" glass painter. He also married Dirkgen Willem around this time.

Two weavers were arrested for entering a church, smashing the case enclosing the Host, and physically threatening a priest.

David Joris stood in front of the New Church and began to loudly ridicule an Ascension Day procession honoring the Virgin Mary. He was arrested and imprisoned for 11 weeks.

David Joris was put on trial for disrupting a Catholic procession. He was sentenced to a whipping, the boring of his tongue, and a 3-year banishment from the city.

David & Dirkgen Joris were baptized by Obbe Philips. A few months later Obbe ordained David into the Melchiorite Anabaptist fellowship.

Due to increased persecution, David & Dirkgen Joris, along with their infant son, left town in search of friendlier territory. They headed for Strasbourg.
David & Dirkgen Joris were forced to return to Delft because of Dirkgen's pregnancy.

David Joris was forced to leave town in broad daylight. A follower of Joris placed him in a basket, covered him with rags, and let him down in a sack into a small boat. He remained in the sack for the trip on the canal and nearly drowned when the boat overturned.

David Joris experienced a number of visions, inspiring him to take a stronger leadership role in Anabaptist circles.

Maritje Jans de Gortersdochter, mother of David Joris, was beheaded in the Celebroeders cloister for the crime of being rebaptized. Since she was a respectable member of the city's upper class, she was given her choice of execution methods: drowning, blood-letting, or by the sword. The executioner used a sharp dagger to cut off her head while she sat in a chair, removing a few fingers as well because "her hands were held high and folded together." Maritje was buried behind the altar in the cloister's church.
