Some deny their existence: Sadduccees. 1. Gave room for arguments with Pharisees. 2. Some confuse with hallucinations. C. Angels: Literally, messengers(of God). 1. Most of time, simply deliver. 2. On occasions exercised other powers. II. Body. A. What does Bible reveal as to their nature? 1. Created, spiritual beings: Hebrews 2:9. 2. Where are they from? Luke 22:43. 3. Can appear in different forms: a. As men: Genesis 19:1. b. Power of flight: Revelation 14:6. c. Some have wings: Exodus 25:19-20. 4. Spoken of in male gender, but are sexless beings compared to mankind: Matthew 22:30. 5. Possess the power of reason: II Samuel 14:20. a. Mind of their own? b. Can be used wisely or unwisely. 6. Can experience joy: Luke 15:10. a. Shows concern about events on earth. b. Happy when men are happy. B. What do angels do? 1. Primarily--messengers of God: Acts 10:3-7. 2. Carry out God's purposes: Acts 12:8. 3. Present in wilderness: Exodus 14:19. 4. Sometimes--they destroy: I Chronicles 21:15. a. In reality: II Kings 19:35. b. They follow the Lord's instructions. 5. Worked with Moses in revealing the law: Galatians 3:19. 6. Ministered to the people of God. a. Jesus received help: Mattew 4:11. b. Carried Lazarus to Abrham's bosom: Luke 16:22. c. Note: Hebrews 1:134. 7. Upon the Lord's return, angels will be with him: Matthew 25:31. a. Their task: Matthew 13:39. b. Angels appear to be never idle! C. The Bible speaks of different types of angels. 1. Cheribum: Genesis 3:24. 2. Seraphim: Isaiah 6:1-2. 3. Gabriel: Luke 1:26. 4. Michael, the archangel: Jude 9. D. There are also fallen angels. 1. To the point of being deceptive: II Corinthians 11:14.(Also, a liar.) 2. Had a place prepared: Matthew 25:41. 3. Used as example for men: II Peter 2:4. 4. Note: Jude 6. III. Conclusion. A. Angels are God's creatures; possessed a mind of their own; some made evil choices. B. Angels have a lot of characteristics like men: but they are not men--they are angels.-jy
