Trip Through The Bible
Lesson Five: The Son of God
None Greater
There has never one lived who could compare with Jesus Christ. The life he lived, the work he did, and the teachings he presented have had a profound impact upon countless numbers of people through the last 2000 years. No other person, from Julius Caesar to Napoleon to the lowest beggar to the richest and wisest prince, has left a mark more indelibly on the sands of history than Jesus Christ. From the four corners of the earth, people sing his praises and study his word. No words are sufficient to describe the greatest preacher who ever lived. No greater lessons than his have been presented by mortal man. The life and words of Christ live today to testify and proclaim his praises.
The Prophets Spoke of Him
Hundreds of years before Jesus came to the earth, the prophets of old told of the coming Messiah.
Jesus existed before the world was formed. "Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped"(Philippians 2:5-6).
The prophet Isaiah spoke of one who would establish an eternal kingdom. "..of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end...to establish it with judgment and with justice henceforth even forever"(Isaiah 9:6-7).,
Jesus Lived on This Earth
John the Baptist introduced him as the Son of God. ""The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world"(John 1:29).
Jesus astonished those whom he met. "The officers answered, Never man so spake"(John 7:46).
Christ experienced temptation as would any man, but he did not sin. "Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil"(Matthew 4:1).
Jesus possessed power beyond that of mortal men while upon the earth. Christ could forgive sin(Luke 5:24); Christ could work miracles(John 11:43-44; Mark 4:39).
Living a perfect life, Jesus died for the sins of mankind. "Which of you convicteth me of sin?" (John 8:46). Pilate would say, "I find no fault in this man"(Luke 23:4).
Jesus was crucified to make a way for all men to be saved. "And when they came unto the place which is called, The skull, there they crucified him"(Luke 23:33).
Christ rose from the dead. "But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection from the dead"(I Corinthians 15:20-21). "This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses"(Acts 2:32).
Christ will return to destroy the earth and reward the righteous and punish the wicked. "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up"(II Peter 3:10). For the righteous, "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world"(Matthew 25:34). For the wicked, "Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels"(Matthew 25:41).
